PROJECT BRACING!

It was a HUGE synchronicity that Xavier and Hubert's donation for the specialty chairs came a day before I had already scheduled the Katalemwa orthotists to come out and assess the bracing needs for the kids. This was one large project I wanted to finish before I left. It has been too costly, exhausting and time consuming to cart each child one by one out to Katalemwa rehab for bracing measurements and needs and simple repairs. Many of the kids are just too involved to bring them out to Katalemwa for assessment.

leg braces for Phillip
I received permission from the Brother in charge to start a program where we brought the orthotists to the kids. This would reduce an all day outing for a child and a worker AND many more kids can get seen this way.  Victor and Akrim both agreed to come to see how this would work. I had at least 10 kids lined up for them to see.

Discussing how to make Phillip's
braces and wheelchair more
functional

Nicholas the poet with a complex seating issue
being measured by Victor

It was the best plan EVER....they were able to see the kids in their own environment. We were able to problem solve many issues re fitting, brace use and repairs. We were able to compare what works with what doesn't. It was truly a team approach and the creative ideas flowed!

Nicholas as well as the other boys are part of the decision
making process. They are learning how to advocate
for themselves and their needs

We are now writing up an agreement on how this will work for transport and time costs. Already, it has proven a success! THANKs to Xavier's organization, our kids at Busega will have ALL their needs met with the remaining 1/2 to go to the Good Shepherd Home to help those children!

THANK GOD once again for miracles upon miracles!
